About the ICT Department
The ICT Department at Tom Mboya University is central to digital transformation, ensuring delivery of robust ICT infrastructure, services, and systems that support academic, research, and administrative functions. The department is a hub of innovation, digital access, and modern educational technology.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain and secure the university network infrastructure
- Support and manage ICT equipment and software systems
- Manage university email, websites, and portals
- Support e-learning platforms and online learning tools
- Implement ICT policy and compliance regulations
KEY PROJECTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
ICT Projects: Infrastructure & Systems
- Installation of campus-wide Wi-Fi and LAN
- Deployment of the ERP system for integrated university operations
- Digitization of records and automation of registry services
- Upgrade of digital teaching and computer labs
ICT Projects: Learning & Communication
- Deployment of virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet)
- Redesign of TMU website and academic portal
- Creation of an online ICT Help Desk for support requests
- Integration of e-learning tools to support hybrid teaching
Jitume Project Computers
Through government collaboration, TMU received modern computers under the Jitume Digital Program. These machines support online work, digital training, and certification for students and the community, promoting digital literacy and remote work opportunities.
Fast Network Installation Project
The ICT Department recently completed the installation of high-speed fiber optic internet across all faculties and hostels. This ensures uninterrupted access to online resources, enhances remote learning, and boosts communication between students and staff.
OUR SUPPORT ROLES
Research and Innovation Support
The ICT Department facilitates data storage, research computing environments, and software solutions for researchers. Collaboration with the Directorate of Research ensures that ICT services align with innovation and data management needs, including access to licensed databases and repositories.
Future Outlook
Looking ahead, the department seeks to advance smart campus technologies, implement cloud computing solutions, strengthen cybersecurity frameworks, and automate more university services. These goals will enhance digital learning, service delivery, and administrative efficiency across Tom Mboya University.
