ABOUT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORATE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES (DPS)

1 Composition of the Board

  • ✓ The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARSA) who shall serve as Chairperson
  • ✓ The Director (DPS) appointed by the Vice-Chancellor
  • ✓ Deans of Schools/faculties
  • ✓ Two representatives of the Senate
  • ✓ The University Librarian
  • ✓ The Registrar (Academics)

2 Responsibilities

  • ✓ Formulation and implementation of postgraduate study regulations
  • ✓ Administration of postgraduate scholarships and research grants
  • ✓ Administration and processing of postgraduate theses and projects
  • ✓ Proper conduct and supervision of postgraduate studies programmes
  • ✓ Appointment of supervisors and examiners
  • ✓ General welfare and discipline of postgraduate students

3 Postgraduate Coordination

  • ✓ Enforcement of common regulations for postgraduate programs
  • ✓ Dissemination of information related to postgraduate studies
  • ✓ Publication of records of postgraduate research work
  • ✓ Maintaining coordination with departments and faculties
  • ✓ Monitoring student progress and research supervision

4 Thesis & Examination Process

  • ✓ Receiving and approving supervisor nominations
  • ✓ Processing appointment of Board of Examiners
  • ✓ Sending theses to examiners and receiving assessments
  • ✓ Convening Board of Examiners meetings
  • ✓ Forwarding recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor
  • ✓ Informing candidates of examination results

5 Student Welfare & Discipline

  • ✓ Receiving reports on welfare and conduct of postgraduate students
  • ✓ Making recommendations to Senate on student matters
  • ✓ Considering matters affecting student welfare and research conditions
  • ✓ Recommending appropriate actions to relevant authorities

6 Additional Powers

  • ✓ Exercising powers equivalent to School/Faculty/Institute
  • ✓ Performing functions assigned by Senate
  • ✓ Maintaining status equivalent to academic units
  • ✓ Enjoying rights and privileges of academic bodies
