Tom Mboya University Partners with WiRED International and KUAP to Advance Community Health Promoters (CHP) Certification Programme in Kenya
Prof. Charles Ochola, the Vice-Chancellor of Tom Mboya University, held a consultative meeting with executive director of WiRED International and Professor Emeritus at San Fransisco State University, and Kisumu Urban Apostolate Program (KUAP), led by Prof. Gary Selnow, to discuss the development of a Community Health Promoters (CHP) Certification Programme. Present in the meeting were Dr. Job Wasonga and Dr. Mark Okowa of Tom Mboya University, Lilian Dajoh and FA. Erick Achola of KUAP, as well as Dr. Sean Bristol-Lee of WiRED International.

During the meeting, Tom Mboya University outlined its plan to pioneer the programme in Kenya in partnership with WiRED International and KUAP. The initiative aims to strengthen the professional recognition of Community Health Promoters through structured training, certification, and international acknowledgement of their contributions to community health systems.

WiRED International and KUAP bring extensive experience in community-based health education and have developed internationally recognized training approaches that support frontline health workers in underserved communities. Through this collaboration, the partners intend to build a robust training framework that enhances the skills, credibility, and impact of Community Health Promoters in Kenya.

The meeting also explored opportunities to leverage the experience of Wired International in establishing a nursing programme at Tom Mboya University. This initiative is expected to be implemented in collaboration with San Francisco State University in the United States of America, with the aim of strengthening nursing education, international partnerships, and health workforce development. The discussions marked an important step toward expanding community health training and advancing academic collaboration to improve health outcomes in Kenya.
