International Relations Students Visit United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi
Tom Mboya University (TMU) International Relations students undertook an educational visit to the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) on 22 October 2026 as part of the University’s commitment to experiential learning and connecting classroom knowledge with international diplomatic practice.
The visit, coordinated by Dr. Mark O. Okowa, Lecturer in International Relations, brought together 49 second- and third-year students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts with IT (International Relations) programme.
The educational tour provided students with valuable exposure to the United Nations system, multilateral diplomacy, international organisations, global governance, and the UN’s role in promoting international peace, security, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
The visit also offered an opportunity for students to appreciate the practical application of international relations theories and concepts, understand the institutional structures and functions of the United Nations, and explore potential career pathways in diplomacy, international organisations, and global development.
This academic engagement underscores Tom Mboya University’s commitment to nurturing globally informed, professionally competent, and practically oriented graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to diplomacy, international cooperation, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
The University continues to promote educational partnerships and experiential learning opportunities that broaden students’ perspectives and prepare them for professional engagement in an increasingly interconnected world.
