Programme Description

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION & EXTENSION, WITH I.T.)

Faculty of Physical and Biological Sciences

Undergraduate

Course Description

This innovative program combines agricultural sciences, education methodologies, and information technology to modernize farming knowledge dissemination. Students learn to design technology-enhanced agricultural training programs, develop digital extension materials, and implement IT solutions for rural farming communities. The curriculum covers crop/livestock production, educational psychology, agricultural extension strategies, and digital tools for agri-education.

Expectations

Students will develop competencies in both traditional agricultural extension methods and modern digital tools like mobile learning platforms, GIS applications, and data-driven decision support systems. The program emphasizes skills in creating interactive training content, utilizing social media for agricultural outreach, and analyzing farmer adoption patterns through IT systems. Graduates will be equipped to bridge the technology gap in rural communities, design effective agricultural education programs, and evaluate the impact of digital extension services while maintaining strong foundations in agronomic principles and participatory rural development approaches.

Market Areas

Graduates can pursue careers as agricultural extension officers integrating digital tools in farmer training, agri-education specialists in schools and vocational institutes, farm management consultants using precision agriculture technologies, agricultural project coordinators for development agencies, agribusiness trainers for cooperatives, and e-extension specialists in government agriculture departments. Emerging opportunities exist in agricultural tech companies developing farmer education apps, NGOs implementing digital literacy programs for rural communities, and research institutions studying technology adoption in agriculture.
