As per Section 35 (1)(b) of the Tom Mboya University Charter, the Senate is the academic governing body responsible for all academic matters of the university, exercising the functions assigned to it in the University Charter.
The Senate exercises full responsibility over all academic work of the University.
Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor with the DVC (Academic Affairs) as Secretary.
Can recommend withdrawal of degrees or academic privileges when warranted.

The Senate may establish committees consisting of Senate members or other qualified persons as it deems appropriate. The Senate may delegate any of its powers or functions to the Chairperson or to any of its committees to ensure efficient governance of academic matters.
Reviews and approves new programmes and curriculum changes.
Oversees examination processes, results, and certification.
Promotes and coordinates research activities and scholarly output.
Ensures academic standards and continuous improvement.
Reviews research proposals for ethical compliance.
Advises on library services and resource development.
