Maseno University Learning Centre – 2010
Early Foundations
Tom Mboya University College (TMUC) originated from Maseno University Learning Centre established in Homa Bay on 7th September 2010. By 2014, it served 1,087 students.
A collaboration between Maseno University and the County Government of Homa Bay led to the decision to establish a university in the region, named in honor of the late Hon. Thomas Joseph Mboya.
TMUC was registered through Legal Notice No. 55 in April 2016, launching diploma and degree programmes modeled on those of Maseno University.
Milestones & Progress
- ✓ Admission of 114 pioneer students in September 2016
- ✓ 19 founding staff (13 from Maseno, 6 from Homa Bay ATC)
- ✓ Launch of University Master Plan and Strategic Plan 2018–2023
- ✓ Infrastructural expansion, community outreach, and research development
- ✓ Strengthened national and international partnerships
Charter Award Ceremony – 2022
Charter Award
After meeting all requirements of the Universities Act, 2012, the Commission for University Education recommended TMU for award of charter.
On 2nd August 2022, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Tom Mboya University its Charter as a full public university, receiving its Instruments of Authority (Mace, Seal, and Logo).
