TOM MBOYA UNIVERSITY is Finally Awarded Charter!!!
Yesterday, 2nd August 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded charters to eight (8) institutions of higher learning at the Kakamega State Lodge, one being Tom Mboya University, previously a constituent college of Maseno University. The Charter was received by the Chairman of the Council, Dr. Augusta N. Abate alongside the now Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Charles Omondi Ochola in the colorful ceremony. Tom Mboya University will be the first fully-fledged University in Homabay County and will therefore play pace-setter for higher education within the county.
In his speech, the President challenged universities to change their approach in the delivery of higher education in the country to cope with the market demands, and also to effectively respond to the dynamic global economy. He also emphasized on the importance of universities and institutions of higher learning tailoring their activities in a manner that prevents corruption in the issuance of degree certificates. He pointed out that corruption does not only erode the reputation of the Kenyan education system but it also undermines the confidence of young graduates in the job market.
Other institutions that were awarded Charter alongside Tom Mboya University are; Kaimosi Friends University in Vihiga, Alupe University in Busia, Tharaka University in Tharaka Nithi (Public) and Lukenya University of Makueni, Zetech University of Kiambu, Kiriri Women's University of Science and Technology in Nairobi and East African University of Kajiado (Private).
