From Vision to Reality: Establishing the School of Built Environment at Tom Mboya University
Universities are not just centers of knowledge; they are also key drivers of local economic growth. As a University located in Homa Bay County, we boast of a student population of over 15,000 in any given academic session, significantly contributing to the region’s socio-economic development.
The University is currently in the process of establishing a School of Built Environment, with the Commission for University Education expected to inspect training spaces and facilities for Architecture and Engineering programmes in June 2026. The first cohort of students is anticipated to be admitted in May 2027.
Future training in the built environment is expected to address critical global challenges such as rapid urbanization and climate change, equipping graduates with skills that are relevant for sustainable development.
In support of this initiative, the Architectural Association of Kenya – Western Kenya Branch paid a courtesy call to the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Omondi Ochola. The delegation was led by Chairman Alfred Mango, alongside Secretary Steve Gome, Treasurer Alexander Muge, and Oscar Ogunde.
The meeting focused on potential areas of collaboration in establishing the School of Built Environment, including technical support from the Association. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has since been agreed upon to formalize and guide this partnership.
