TMU STRENGTHENS GLOBAL RESEARCH COLLABORATION THROUGH HIGH-LEVEL MALARIA RESEARCH ENGAGEMENT
Tom Mboya University (TMU) continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution in research, innovation, and international collaboration following a high-level research engagement between distinguished scientists from Kenya and the United States.

Prof. Katherine Dobbs of the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, accompanied by her long-time research collaborator, Prof. Harrysone Atieli, Pioneer and Head of the International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR)—a joint research laboratory between Tom Mboya University and the United States—held a strategic research collaboration meeting with Prof. Elyjoy Micheni, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs) at Tom Mboya University.

The meeting underscored the University's commitment to advancing world-class research through strategic international partnerships aimed at addressing pressing public health challenges, particularly malaria, which continues to affect millions of people across sub-Saharan Africa.

The discussions focused on strengthening existing collaborations, expanding research opportunities, enhancing institutional capacity, and identifying new avenues for joint scientific investigations. Key areas included collaborative grant applications, research infrastructure development, staff and student exchange programmes, capacity building for early-career researchers, and the translation of research findings into policies and interventions that improve community health outcomes.

Prof. Katherine Dobbs highlighted the importance of sustained international partnerships in accelerating scientific discovery and developing innovative solutions to combat infectious diseases. She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting collaborative research initiatives that foster excellence while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange between researchers in Kenya and the United States.

Prof. Harrysone Atieli emphasized the significant milestones achieved through the International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR), noting that the partnership has played a pivotal role in generating evidence-based research that informs malaria prevention, surveillance, and control strategies. He further observed that the collaboration has contributed immensely to strengthening research capacity, mentorship, and postgraduate training at Tom Mboya University.

Receiving the visiting researchers, Prof. Elyjoy Micheni commended the enduring partnership between Tom Mboya University, the Cleveland Clinic, and other international collaborators. She reaffirmed the University's unwavering commitment to supporting impactful research, innovation, and academic excellence through strategic global collaborations.

"This partnership reflects our shared vision of producing high-quality research that addresses societal challenges while nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators. We value the tremendous contribution of our international partners in advancing the University's research agenda," said Prof. Micheni.

The meeting further reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to promote collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and scientific excellence in the fight against malaria and other emerging public health challenges.

As Tom Mboya University continues to expand its global research footprint, partnerships such as the International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research remain instrumental in positioning the University as a regional hub for cutting-edge scientific research, innovation, and capacity development.

Through such collaborations, TMU continues to make meaningful contributions toward improving healthcare outcomes, advancing scientific knowledge, and supporting sustainable development both locally and globally.
